Dear Montevideo Families,
Welcome to fall! October is always such a fun and busy month with conference week, Trunk or Treat, field trips, and Halloween activities. As I visit classrooms, I am consistently impressed with the level of engagement, excitement, energy, and kindness that our students show daily.
MUSTANGS WITH HEART
For October and November, we will focus on E, for Empathy. I will be visiting classrooms and reading Empathy is Your Superpower, A Little Spot of Empathy, and Teach Your Dragon Empathy. We will focus on kindness and understanding how others feel. Last month, I visited classrooms and talked about different ways to be helpful. The students had some wonderful ideas of how to be helpful at home, at school, and with other people.
As part of our “ Mustangs with HEART” program, students may earn “Heart Hero” cards from any adult on campus. Cards will be entered each week for grade-level drawings on Fridays and displayed in our MPR.
As a reminder, “HEART” stands for Helping Others, Empathy, Attitude Matters, Responsibility, and Teamwork.
Trunk or Treat
Join us on Thursday, October 22, from 5:30-7:00 PM for a fun-filled evening of costumes, candy, and community!

Unity Day
Unity Day is WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2026.
Please WEAR ORANGE!
Unity Day is a national day organized by the PACER Center to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion, and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.
Halloween Schedule
“Wacky” Schedule for Friday, October 30th:

8:00 am: All students, grades TK-5, start school

8:15 am: Halloween parade on the blacktop. Families are invited to watch the parade; there is no need to sign in at the office.

9:00 am Parade wraps up, Cal High Band performance: families may leave campus. Any person volunteering in their child’s classroom will then sign in at the office.

11:30 am: TK and Kinder students are dismissed.

12:50 pm: All students in grades 1-5 dismissed.
A follow-up communication with a map and timeline of events for Halloween will be sent in a couple of weeks.
School Pick-Up and Drop-Off Reminders
For the safety and well-being of all, dogs are not permitted on campus grounds unless they are service dogs. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this policy.
Our primary concern is to ensure the safety of our students, families, and staff. As a reminder, when dropping off your child, please pull into the yellow loading zone and make sure students exit the vehicle on the curb side, not into traffic. If you need to exit your vehicle, please pull into a parking space and use the crosswalk to cross the parking lot safely. You may not leave your vehicle unattended in the yellow loading zone.
Fallen Leaf Circle and Broadmoor can get very congested. Please slow down and be very mindful of the crosswalks. If you are late or running behind, it may be easier to go to the front of the school. There is plenty of open parking in the lot in the morning. Students may walk through campus to get to their lines.
Additionally, please remember to exit the campus by 7:55 am when the first bell rings. We need to secure the campus by 8:00 am. Thank you for your help.
