DATE 8/12/25
Hello Montevideo Families!
We are so excited to see you all tomorrow, August 13th, for our first day of the 2025/2026 school year!!
As a reminder for the first day of school:
AM TK and Kindergarten: 8:00--9:30 am
PM TK: 9:50--11:20 am
1st--5th: 8:00---12:00 noon
Closed Campus:
- Montevideo Elementary is a “closed campus.” This means that during school hours of 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. the perimeter is locked and secured. Parents and caregivers are asked to leave after the first morning bell, at 7:55 a.m. so that the gates may be secured promptly at 8:00 a.m.
- All parents and visitors on campus during school hours must enter through the front office and sign in using their Be a Mentor account.
- Animals are not allowed on any SRVUSD campus. Any service animal will require written permission, documentation, and interview clearance at least 10 days before a campus visit from the Director of Student Services.
Before School:
- Parents and caregivers are welcome to stay with their child(ren) before school, but students may not be on campus without a parent or caregiver before 7:50 a.m.
- Students in grades 1-4 will line up on the blacktop on the basketball courts. Each class will have a cone with the room # and the teacher's name placed at the front of the line.
- Kinder, and 5th grade students will line up on the blacktop behind the portable classrooms near the tetherball courts (closer to the Iron Horse Trail). Each class will have a cone with the room # and the teacher's name placed at the front of the line.
- TK students will line up outside of Gate 5 in the back parking lot off of Dunbarton Circle.
School Traffic:
Life is busy! We are busy! However, ALL of us have to make a collective commitment to ensure our students’ safety during drop-off and pick-up times. It is up to us, the adults, to follow and abide by all traffic laws and regulations, and to set the tone and be a kind, respectful model for our students…their safety and well-being depend on it!
- Drivers: our only drop-off location is the front loop of our school. Please stay in your vehicle, drive all the way up, safely have your child(ren) exit the car at the yellow curb, and then continue to move forward to exit the parking lot. You should never park and leave your vehicle at the front loop, even if you are a TK or kinder parent.
- If you are dropping your child(ren) off at the back of the school on Fallen Leaf Circle, please remember that double parking is always illegal and immediately puts our students in danger and creates an extremely dangerous situation.
- Walkers, bikers, and scooters: you may enter our campus through the front of the school, the Broadmoor playground/park gate entrance, or the Iron Horse Trail playground/park gate entrance. If you are having your child use one of these entrances, this means you are either walking or riding with them, and have legally parked your car to enter school grounds with them.
- We are a “wheels up” campus, meaning students/adults walk their wheels (bikes, scooters) once they are near campus.
- Ensure that all pedestrians use crosswalks and that they are making eye contact with drivers. It is unsafe to assume drivers see you and this is an important life lesson that our students need to know and follow.
After School:
To help with crowd control when the bell rings, we dismiss classes from different gates around our campus. Your teacher will inform you at Back to School Night which gate to use to pick up your students.
- If you have more than one student in different grades, please have your students meet their pickup person (parent, babysitter, etc.) at the location of the youngest student.
- Please identify and discuss your meeting spot with your student(s) on or before Wednesday morning.
- TK and Kinder students will be dismissed from their playground area near the rear parking lot.
- TK and Kinder students who would like a free “Grab and Go” lunch will eat the lunch at school with a parent. This is a California state requirement. A designated outdoor eating area will be provided for these families.
I am so excited to see you all tomorrow and can’t wait for an amazing 25/26 school year
In Partnership,
Kathleen Martins, Principal
