Hello Montevideo Families,

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year!  Whether you’re feeling like staying in summer mode forever or are counting down the days until the school day routine begins, I hope this message finds you well.

I am so excited to welcome our students and families back soon, and love the buzz of excitement that each new year brings.  Teachers and staff are already beginning to return here to Montevideo to collaborate, create inspiring classrooms,  and prepare for the year ahead.  They work so hard for our students all year long and I am grateful for this dedicated group of educators.

I am also grateful for the ongoing efforts of our two main volunteer organizations.  The Montevideo Education Foundation and PTA (Parent Teacher Association) are also planning for the success and well being of our community.  While last year was filled with much uncertainty at the beginning of the year, this year feels more “normal” as these volunteers plan the activities and fundraisers that will bring our community together and provide the dollars to create an enriching educational experience that benefits each child both inside and outside of the classroom.

Our theme for the 22-23 school year is, “Can’t Hide Our Mustang Pride.”  The focus of education will be based upon deep learning and innovation as well as the social and emotional well-being of our students. We will also focus on six core competencies: Character, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking as they relate to deeper learning and equity. Other highlights include bringing art and music into every classroom and having additional Instructional Assistants to allow students to learn in a small group setting where they will receive personalized support.  I look forward to sharing this in more detail at our back to school nights.

We would really like to focus on community connection and involvement after a couple of really tough years.  There are many ways to get involved here at Montevideo and there is a place for everybody.  Reach out to me and we can chat about where your gifts and interests may best be directed.

As we enter the home stretch of summer, we hope to see many of you next Thursday, August 4th, at our “Get to Know MO” (Montevideo) scavenger hunt!
